Height before anything else

The two storey wall
Great rooms here often run up two full storeys, and the chimney breast or feature wall goes up with them. The temptation is to centre the television on that wall, which puts it nine or ten feet in the air. It looks balanced from the doorway and it is punishing to watch from the sofa. The centre of the screen wants to be near seated eye level, and on most sofas that is lower than the room invites. A tilt helps a little. It does not undo four feet.
So the screen usually ends up lower than the architecture suggests, and the wall above it stays empty or takes something else.
