Can you mount a TV on any wall?

Almost any. Drywall over timber or steel studs, brick, block, poured concrete and stone all take a screen with the right fixings. The one wall we will tell you no on is a thin hollow partition with nothing solid behind it, because there is nothing there to hold the load.

Drywall over timber studs, drywall over steel studs, brick, block, poured concrete, stone and tiled surfaces all take a television. What changes is the fixing. Timber takes a lag screw, steel takes a toggle rated for steel, and masonry takes a sleeve or wedge anchor set with a hammer drill rather than the plastic plugs that came in the box.

The exception is a thin hollow partition with nothing solid behind it. No anchor creates structure that does not exist, and a large screen on such a wall will pull the board apart sooner or later. If that is the wall you had in mind, we will say so, find the nearest wall that does work, and explain why.

Tell us the screen and the wall. We will tell you the price.
