The real question is heat. Above a working firebox the air can sit hotter than the manufacturer allows, and heat does not break a panel immediately. It shortens the life of the set quietly and voids the warranty while doing it. We check the temperature above the opening before mounting rather than after.
Worth knowing separately: a fireplace puts the centre of the screen well above seated eye level. A tilting mount improves the angle. It does not lower the screen.
